When all else fails: Don't worry, it could get worse. It usually does.  I should know, afterall, I've only been trying to kill myself for the past 50 years.  It hasn't worked... yet. But I might be on to something!

So how did it all get started? Well that's a good question. Many years ago my parents were killed gruesomely as I watched from hiding. My father had told me to hide, and I was young, innocent, and I did everything my father asked. So it came to pass that my well to do society parents both died and I lived.  I wanted to kill myself. Everyone whispered, no one knew the truth,  and I couldn't tell them. So I ran away from my family's holdings leaving them in the capable hands of the senichel.

Still just having run from home wasn't going to solve my problems, I needed to die.  But I couldn't kill myself or I wouldn't go to  the same place as my parents. After weighing my options I decided that being a spy in Sel-Kai ought to do the trick. At the time I was only a teenager, and I really wasn't all that good at hiding and sneaking. I spent a great deal of nights in the jail house of Sel-Kai, but generally there was never enough evidence to convict or my employer was in the process of blackmailing the guy who was pressing charges.  All in all, I was really starting to get good at things when I made a mistake:
I assumed elves could only hear as well as humans. Thus it was that Mazba caught me spying on him.  He had me red handed with incriminating evidence and all. Since I was trying to kill myself, you can imagine my excitement! I couldn't have come up with a more incriminating set up if I'd tried, and believe me, I tried.  Just when I was about ready to jump for joy Mazba cocked his head to the side and said "You'll do rather nicely, I think."
"Aren't you going to kill me?"
"No, it's hard to find good talent these days. You're sloppy, but you could be good. I know just where to put you."

A year later I was apprenticed to Raven the Loremaster. Now that's a good way to die.
